Foundational Research for the Addictions Sector 3-Year Strategic Plan
(February 2006 – March 2007)
The review included all agencies that comprise the Calgary Addictions Sector, as well as the Community Action Committee of the Calgary Homeless Foundation. The purpose of the project was to develop a foundation of research upon which to build the Addictions Sector 3-year Strategic Plan. The key deliverables of the project included: 1) a thorough literature review of best practices for providing services and housing to individuals recovering from addictions, as well as those people who suffer from addictions and are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless; 2) An environmental scan to describe Calgary’s existing addictions services and related housing for adults, youth and seniors who are recovering from addictions. The environmental scan included services focused on people recovering from addictions while homeless or at risk of becoming homeless; and 3) A needs assessment document, based on an analysis of the gaps that exist between identified best practices and the current reality as reflected in the Calgary environmental scan.
