Immigrant Services Calgary

Evaluation of the School Readiness Project for Refugee/Immigrant Families

(June 2006 – July 2007)

This evaluation of two projects for refugee/immigrant preschool children and their parents/caregivers was funded by the Alberta Advanced Education – Community Programs Branch.  The programs included Integrated Fathers and Children Participatory Project at Calgary Immigrant Aid Society and the Colour My World Family Literacy Program: Parents and Children Preparing for School at the Centre for Newcomers.  The primary purpose of the evaluation was to understand more about effective practices in working with these populations.  The evaluation produced service use, demographic, outcome and other information identifying service strengths and gaps as well as suggestions for effective school readiness programming for immigrant and refugee families.

Calgary Immigrant Aid Society – Internship Evaluation

(May 2002 – April 2003)

Youth Industry Internship Program is funded by Human Resources Development and Canada offers a skill building program to help immigrant youth obtain employment in manufacturing, distribution and other industries.  The program is comprised of a workshop and work placement components and aims to help immigrant youth learn new skills, provide them with Canadian work experience, establish future job security and increase marketability.  The evaluation closely reflected the goals outlined by HRDC, was based on a review of relevant literature, required participation of all key stakeholders, used both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, and was guided by a logic model.
